Microneedling (also referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT) rejuvenates the skin and improves the skin surface. Microneedling treatments stimulate the skin to repair itself naturally and safely. Microneedling can be performed on the face and body to address fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores, sun damage, scars, acne scarring and stretch marks.
What Is Microneedling?
A Microneedling device moves across the skin, making pinpoint punctures to create very minor “micro injuries” to the outermost layer of the skin, which heal rapidly. This stimulates the production of collagen and elastin which are vital components of healthy skin. When these wounds heal, this creates skin that is smoother, clearer and more vibrant.
The treatment may also include the application of specialist serums or even a patient’s own platelet-rich plasma (PRP), where appropriate, which are absorbed through the tiny pin-pricks into the dermis where they can deliver active ingredients to address issues such as dehydrated, sun-damaged or hyperpigmented skin and improve hair growth.
Does It Hurt?
Microneedling shouldn't be painful. At Guerra Plastic Surgery Center, we use a special cream to numb the skin. Afterwards you can expect the skin to be pink or reddish in color, which fades over a few days.
What Areas of the Body Can Be Treated?
Microneedling can be performed anywhere on the face and body that has:
Microneedling isn't exclusive to just the face area or just to treat wrinkles. The treatment can be performed on the face and body, particularly in areas that have stretch marks, like the legs, chest, or buttock.
How Often Can I Get Microneedling Done?
At Guerra Plastic Surgery Center, we tailor treatments to individual needs and concerns. On average, we perform 2-3 treatments spaced 3-4 weeks apart. More or less sessions may be recommended depending on the severity of the treatment area. Our experienced practitioners will evaluate and determine the best microneedling treatment plan for you.
What Should I Do Afterwards?
For the rest of the day following a microneedling treatment, you should avoid putting on makeup and creams from your daily regimen. Our experienced practitioners will advise you on how to care for your skin as well as a skincare regimen after a microneedling treatment. The best results for rejuvenating your skin occur when microneedling is combined with daily sun protection and skincare regimens such Skinceuticals Anti-Aging Bundle, neuromodulators (Dysport®, BOTOX®) and dermal filler (Restylane®, Juvederm®, and Sculptra®).
When Will I See the Results?
The benefits of microneedling will become visible over 1 to 3 weeks. Remember, give your skin time to rejuvenate. Improvements in your skin may continue for up to 6 months post-treatment.
