Perk Up for Summer With a Breast Lift in Arizona: Why Shape Beats Size

Rejuvenate your breasts with a breast lift (mastopexy) surgery.

Sundresses, tank tops, and bikinis define summers in Arizona, and many women want to look and feel their best before slipping into these clothes. Across the country, more patients are choosing a breast lift over breast augmentation to get there. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, breast lift procedures climbed 17% between 2024 and 2025, pushing them into the country’s top five most-requested cosmetic procedures.

What Is a Breast Lift and How Is It Different From Breast Implants?

A breast lift, also called mastopexy, raises sagging breast tissue, tightens the surrounding skin, repositions the nipple higher on the chest wall, and reduces an enlarged areola simultaneously.

Unlike breast augmentation, which adds volume through a silicone or saline implant, a breast lift will not increase your cup size. It only restores or improves the contour and position of your breasts.

Why Are More Women Choosing Breast Lifts Over Implants?

Patient preferences have shifted in the past five years. The natural-looking, athletic, smaller-bust aesthetic has gained ground, with more patients desiring to look slender and proportional rather than dramatically enhanced.

Additional factors fuel the trend:

  • Implant fatigue. Some patients have learned about breast implant illness (BII), capsular contracture, and the eventual need for implant replacement surgery. Per ASPS, although removals account for only 2% of all cosmetic surgeries worldwide, interest in the procedure is growing.
  • Changing beauty standards. Celebrities and other public figures have talked more openly about choosing perky, natural-looking results over larger, more obvious changes, which has influenced countless people worldwide.
  • Aging millennials and Gen X. Many women in their late 30s through 50s have noticed sagging (ptosis) after pregnancy or after major weight loss, and they want to address it without altering their bust size.

For more on what causes sagging in the first place, our article, 7 Breast Sagging Habits to Break Before It’s Too Late, on Medium covers prevention tips to start today.

Who Should Get a Breast Lift in Scottsdale?

You may be a good candidate for a breast lift if any of the following apply:

  • Your nipples are along or below the inframammary fold, the crease beneath your breast.
  • Your breasts have lost volume, whether due to pregnancy, breastfeeding, or major body changes.
  • Your skin has stretched, and your breasts look deflated or pendulous.
  • You like your current cup size but want a higher, perkier position.
  • Your areolas have enlarged over time.

Most candidates are non-smokers in good general health. If you’re planning more pregnancies, our surgeons may suggest waiting, since pregnancy can stretch the skin again and undo your investment.

What Are the Benefits of a Breast Lift Without Implants?

Patients who choose a lift on its own enjoy several upsides:

  • A more youthful contour. Sagging tissue rises, and the nipple is at the fullest part of the breast again.
  • A lighter feeling on the chest. No implant means no extra weight for your upper body to support and no permanent change to how your bust feels day to day.
  • No future implant exchange. Implants are not lifetime devices. Most patients need an exchange or revision after 10 to 15 years. A lift alone skips the need for future surgery.
  • Smaller, better-proportioned areolas. Surgeons can reduce the areola’s diameter at the same time.
  • A natural feel. Since your breasts will still be entirely your own tissue, they will feel and move naturally.

Mastopexy has a 95% “Worth It” rating on RealSelf, based on over 1,000 patient reviews. The lifted look fits the active Arizona lifestyle, from yoga sessions in Old Town Scottsdale to weekends on Lake Pleasant.

What Breast Lift Techniques Do Dr. Guerra and Dr. Dang Use?

At Guerra Plastic Surgery Center, our board-certified plastic surgeons tailor the lift technique to your degree of sagging, your skin elasticity, and your goals. The four main approaches include:

  • Crescent lift. A small crescent-shaped incision sits above the areola. Used for very mild ptosis.
  • Periareolar (donut) lift. A circular incision around the areola addresses mild sagging and can also reduce the areola’s size.
  • Vertical (lollipop) lift. Two incisions, one around the areola and one running down to the breast fold, address moderate sagging.
  • Anchor-pattern (inverted-T) lift. Three incisions address advanced sagging and pendulous breasts. This is one of our most-used patterns for patients with greater ptosis.

Our surgeons combine these techniques with advanced tools featured in The VIP Kit: Inside Our Advanced Plastic Surgery Tools and Techniques. One example is GalaFLEX™ mesh, which gives your breast added internal support while stimulating new collagen growth. embrace® Advanced Scar Therapy and DERMABOND® PRINEO® are two other examples, which, together, help your incisions heal with minimal scarring.

Additional FAQs

Can I get a breast lift during the summer?

Yes. Many patients schedule their mastopexy in early summer because they can plan time away from work, childcare, or school-year obligations. The main concern is not the season itself, but how well you can protect your incisions, limit sun exposure, and give your body enough time to recover before traveling, swimming, or attending events.

Will a summer breast lift affect swimsuit season?

It can, depending on your timing. If you have summer vacation plans, schedule your procedure long before or after those events, keeping in mind that you will spend the first few weeks resting and wearing a surgical bra. You also need to avoid swimming or submerging your incisions in pools, hot tubs, and natural bodies of water for four to six weeks.

Can you combine a breast lift with implants?

Absolutely. If you want more cleavage and a perkier look, a combined breast lift with implants, also called an augmentation mastopexy, lifts the breasts and gives you more volume in one surgery.

Dr. Guerra and his staff are phenomenal! I can’t stress enough how comfortable they made me, this ball of anxiety, through the entire process. I had to put my surgery on hold, and even after it had been a couple of years, the standard of care never changed. The day my surgery finally came and I couldn’t believe I wasn’t the least bit nervous!
