When we think about procedures like a tummy tuck in Arizona, liposuction, arm lift, lower body lift, thigh lift and other procedures - all of these aim to improve the contour and shape of the body. As Scottsdale plastic surgeons, it’s a balancing act between maximizing results and minimizing any issues in the healing process. On the one extreme end, we can take a very minor amount of skin during a tummy tuck and maybe a touch of liposuction. Although this would maximize the recovery and minimize scar length - the results would be modest at best. On the other end, if we take a huge amount of skin, suction out the maximum amount of fat, and employ various skin tightening devices - that would require a much longer recovery, usually results in longer scars, and perhaps delays the wound healing, but the contouring results would be transformational.

Meet with our team to explore the right balance between results and recovery for your body contouring procedure.
Think of this analogy - imagine a person walking up a mountain to the edge of the cliff. You want that person to be at the highest point, right at that edge, and not go any further, or else the outcome would be less than ideal. This is the same in surgery - we want to do as much as possible to maximize the contouring, but stop at the edge of the cliff to avoid issues with healing.
A good plastic surgeon should be able to tell you how much can be achieved and how it can be done in a safe manner that will not jeopardize your healing. Everything in surgery involves a risk/benefit discussion. Is it really worth doing liposuction on the front and back? Do you need the incisions extending all the way around the back? Surgery is definitely an art form, and deciding how much to remove, how much to suction, is mostly by feel and experience. 3D imaging, measurement devices, etc are only useful adjuncts, but at the end of the day, it involves the experience and expertise of the plastic surgeon.
I had an amazing experience with Dr. Guerra! From start to finish, he and his team were absolutely incredible so professional, kind, and attentive. Dr. Guerra explained everything clearly at every visit and made sure I felt informed and comfortable throughout the entire process. I just had my 2.5 month check-up and I am beyond happy with my results. My results look amazing! I truly couldn’t be happier and highly recommend him.
Best decision I have ever made! From day one, I felt heard and cared for. The staff made the entire experience smooth and reassuring. I’m 11 weeks post-op and already love my results! They look natural and fit my body perfectly. The recovery experience and guidance was very clear and helpful. I’m so thankful I chose this surgeon! Best experience ever!!!
