Getting breast augmentation in Scottsdale, Arizona, is one of the most personal, life-altering decisions you can make. For the countless patients who walked through our doors before you, breast implants helped them reach their body goals and feel more confident, comfortable, and like the best versions of themselves. However, one thing to think about before getting plastic surgery is that achieving your perfect augmentation results requires choosing the right implant size for your body. And while it might seem tempting to rely on at-home hacks to visualize your post-augmentation appearance, there’s no alternative to an in-person consultation with one of our board-certified plastic surgeons.

Take the first step toward your transformation. Schedule a FREE* consultation with our experts or call (480) 568-2523.
It takes more than saying, “I want to go from an A to a C cup.”
So, how do we determine the right implant size for your body? It’s a combination of science, art, and years of experience. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at what to expect during your breast augmentation consultation:
1. Breast Measurements
First, we take precise measurements of your chest and breasts, including your breast width (the distance across your natural breast), the thickness of your breast tissue, and the space between your breasts. We’ll also focus on your breast base width, or the width of your chest where the implant will sit. Altogether, these measurements help us determine the ideal implant size that will fit your frame naturally. Here at Guerra Plastic Surgery Center, our #1 goal is to make your results look as natural as possible, unless you prefer a perkier aesthetic.
2. Body Proportions
Next, we assess your overall build, which includes your shoulder width, hip-to-waist ratio, and height. The goal is to select an implant size that complements your natural proportions, not overpower them. For example, a petite patient with a narrow frame might opt for a smaller implant to maintain balance, while someone with a broader frame might choose a slightly larger size.
3. Tissue Characteristics
Your existing breast tissue helps determine the right implant size. We evaluate the quality of your tissue, the elasticity of your skin, and the amount of natural breast volume you have. If your skin is thin or lacks elasticity, a larger implant might stretch the skin too much, leading to sagging over time. On the other hand, if you have more natural tissue, you might have more flexibility in terms of size.
4. Imaging Technology
This is where technology comes in handy. Tools like Mentor’s Breast Implant Simulator app allow you to picture how different implant sizes and shapes look on your body. These tools give you a “glimpse” of your post-op results, but they’re not the final word. Think of them as a starting point rather than a definitive guide.
Speaking of technology, let’s talk about Mentor’s app. This augmented reality tool allows you to “try on” implant sizes and shapes using 3D simulation. All you need to do is upload a photo of yourself, and the app will help you envision how different implants might look on your body. It’s an exciting and interactive way to review your options and get a sense of what you like.
But, and this is a big but, the app is not a replacement for an in-person consultation. While it can give you a general idea of your preferences, it doesn’t account for all the nuances of your breast anatomy. For instance, it can’t measure your breast base width or assess the quality of your tissue. That’s why it’s so important to use the app as a supplement to, instead of a substitute for, a sit-down consultation with a board-certified surgeon.
Now, let’s talk about why meeting with your surgeon in person is non-negotiable:
1. Personalized Assessment
No two bodies are alike, and no two augmentation procedures should be, either. On the day of your appointment, the surgeon will perform a thorough evaluation of your breasts and body, discuss your goals, and recommend implant sizes that suit your frame.
Here at Guerra Plastic Surgery Center, we personalize procedures to ensure each patient’s results look and feel natural. If you want proof, check out our Breast Augmentation Photos and Breast Lift Photos.

2. Communication and Expectations
An in-person discussion gives you the opportunity to ask questions, voice concerns, and share your vision with your surgeon. It’s also a chance for your surgeon to set realistic expectations and explain the risks and benefits of different implant sizes.
3. Trial Implants
One of the fun parts of an in-person consultation is trying on implant sizes. Using special sizers, you can “try on” various implants to see how they look and feel under your clothes.
4. Building Trust
Finally, meeting a breast augmentation specialist in person lets you establish a relationship based on trust and confidence. You’ll get a sense of their competence, communication style, and bedside manner, all of which can improve your experience.
